Everyday Arts Lab
at Stratton Elementary School

Students created portraits of their classmate using oil pastels and artistic ideals that are present in the artwork of Beauford Delaney. 

Students engage in a group activity where each group member contributes to a singular drawing. This week's concepts are inspired by the artist Chiffon Thomas.

In this lesson, students will learn about artist Pamela Phatismo Sunstrum and create masks that represent their alter ego.

This week, students will create paper versions of themselves when they are experience conflict. We will use the artist Barthelemy Toguo as an example for identifying emotions with color and line. 

This lesson asks students to tap into their emotions and work together to create an expression of what they are feeling, inspired by artist Jennifer Packer. 

Students think about who their heroes are and create a meaningful portrait of them. They will also engage in a collaborative hand paint activity. 

In this lesson, students will create portraits of themselves and their family, with creative and colorful backgrounds inspired by the work of Stephen Hamilton.
